"Horses?" he asked, then leaned back. "Well, I shouldn't be that surprised, it is the country. But I've never actually seen a horse before." He stirred his rice around in the bento box. Then looking at all of them one at a time, he addressed them all with, "so, are you all really good friends then?" They certainly seemed like it. He was surprised that they were so willing to accept him into their circle.

"We've been friends for a long time." Kiyoshi said with a smile. "We've known each other since..." "Elementary school to be exact." Shinako answered when Kiyoshi hesitated. They had been friends for that long. "Well, with the exception of Momoko, she's still new here. But it's ok." She let out a strange giggle.

Potato smiled just the smallest bit. "Oh? That's a very long time... you're all so nice to let me in like this." Maybe Mother was right, he thought to himself, maybe it really won't be so bad after all. My first day of school, and I already met five potential friends... and they're all really cute girls too. I wonder if any of them have boyfriends... "So you all hang out at the arcade a lot then?" he asked.

"Most of the time when the weather is crap." Yuki said, her gaze up at the ceiling. "Sometimes we just wander town. Perhaps we could show you around town a bit sometime." "Speaking of showing you around, perhaps all of us could walk home together?" Kazuki suggested. "I mean, its a pretty small community so we can all just walk home and be all happy! Perhaps you can meet us in the mornings to walk to school together!"

"W-walk home with you?" he asked, his eyes wide. He ducked his head. "Yah, that sounds nice," he said lowly, "but, well, I probably will make for rather dull company." He ate some more bites of his bento as he tried to hide how flustered he was.

"Oh don't be silly! You won't be dull at all! That's the same thing Momoko-Chan said to us when we first met her!" Kiyoshi cheered joyfully. "Besides. You could tell us some good stories about the city! Like what kinds of events happened, interesting stories..." As Kiyoshi blabbed on about the many things Potato-kun could talk about. Shinako's gaze narrowed towards a group of macho like guys. Sport people, thinking they're so cool because they're stars of their respectable sport. However there was one guy that was glaring at Potato-kun from afar. His name was Kyo Souta. The star of the basketball team. He seemed to glare at Potato-kun for the longest time, before he caught the murderous eyes of Shinako glaring back at him. He turned away, mostly to hide a smirk showing that a girl with such allure couldn't scar him. But as soon as the jerk turned his gaze away, Shinako turned her attention back to her posse and of course cute little Potato-Kun. "Basically, Kiyoshi rambles on like this all of the time. It's pretty common." She told Potato-Kun.

Potato-kun listened politely enough as Kiyoshi did her babbling, not at all put off by it. He was such a lonely soul, and just hearing people talk to him was a pleasant relief from the dull and ordinary. As Shinako interrupted her friend, he waved the comment off. "Oh, I don't mind," he said quickly. Then he froze. "Oh, I just remember." He turned to address them all. "I couldn't take you up on your offer of walking home today. I have to stay after school for something. But maybe if your offer still stands tomorrow..."

Kiyoshi stopped her blabbering and the girls all frowned. "How unfortunate. But that's quite ok. Tomorrow we can all walk home together." Kiyoshi said, optimistically. "Perhaps... we can all exchange numbers! How about that?!" The girls nodded in agreement. "What do you say Hashimoto-Kun?" Kiyoshi asked, pulling out her phone.

"Oh, uh, sorry," he said, a little startled, "I don't have a phone anymore..." Great, now I look like more of a loser. And i was doing so well... He stuffed a piece of chicken into his mouth to prevent himself from saying anymore things to embarrass himself.

"Oh no worries!" Kiyoshi assured him, smiling brightly. "It's not the end of the world if you don't have a phone." Soon the bell began to rang, she was a bit alarmed that lunch had ended so quickly. "Well I guess this is where we part ways for now. Have a good rest of your day Hashimoto-Kun." Shinako said with a smile. She soon got up, gathering her bento, her book of Shakespeare and began to head out, followed by Kazuki and Yuki. They waved goodbye to Kiyoshi, Momoko and Potato before the walked out.
And so class resumed. The overwhelming heat was slowly starting to die down as the day came to a close. Already there was a bucket load of math, social studies and reading (or what we Americans call: English) homework for a first day. Soon the final bell of the day rung and Kiyoshi and Momoko gathered their things. "Well, we'll see you tomorrrow Hashimoto-Kun!" Kiyoshi chimed as she dragged Momoko on out.

Potato-kun watched them go, then he went off to the headmaster's office. A counselor met him there and welcomed him and told him about what was expected of him, extra-curriculars he could take, what to remember to bring to class, all those sorts of things. He had gotten to school late, so he did not receive such instructions at the beginning, hence he was being told now. The talk lasted a little over a half hour, and then he was dismissed. Shouldering his backpack, he headed outside, taking a pause at an old water pump outside to get a drink. He splashed some of the water on his face and turned the pump off. "So hot..." he muttered, drying his face with his shirt.

"You Hashimoto?"
A deep and threatening voice spoke from behind him. Green eyes narrowed and ready to attack when needed. It was in fact Kyo Souta, the boy who had been glaring at him during lunch time. He was smirking, knowing that no one was going to stop him now that Hashimoto and him were out of sight from any sort of staff member or teacher. Er well. He thought they were out of sight of onlookers. But he didn't know any better.

Potato-kun straightened up at the sound of his name. He knew that tone. It was usually followed by pain. He gripped the strap of his backpack tighter, but otherwise kept a nonchalant face as he slowly turned towards the young man. "Yes, that's me," he said flatly. With a quick, gray-eyed glance, he sized his foe up. Of course it was a foe. There was no other reason why a young man would corner him behind the school buildings when he was non-suspecting. Potato frowned. This boy was much taller than him and had the muscles of an athlete. Potato had done some martial arts when he was younger and even tried kendo club when he was in middle school, but he had never stuck with either sport long enough to build up his body any. He could try to defend himself, but what was the point? It always ended the same. And it was always for petty stuff anyway. Hardly surprising that some aggressor would go after him on his first day. Potato probably deserved it merely for existing after all. So it was not as though he questioned this person's reason either. He was just waiting for the inevitable to happen. But until then, he would try to at least pretend to be brave.

"I'm Souta." He said bluntly. "And I'd like to warn you that this is my turf you're walking on now. You got it... Potato?" He snickered at his name. He hoped that this was going to go all according to what he had planned in five seconds. He was going to threaten Potato-Kun, tell him to back off from the ladies he was hitting on, tell him this was his turf. Then Potato-Kun would just nod and there. Problem done. But he wanted to strike the fear into his heart for good. "If you got a problem with that. I'll introduce you to a personal friend of mine. His name is the ground. I bet you and him will become great friends." He snickered again. He was attempting to be threatening, but this was literally the first time he was threatening someone... Fail.

Perhaps Potato did have a death wish, but he could not help but find this new bully-wannabe's attempts highly amateurish and relatively amusing, albeit morbidly so, in that the bully lacked obvious brains but definite strength and will. At least he expected that, or perhaps he was expecting too much. "Was that supposed to scare me?" he asked honestly.
