Quentin arrives at the Wizard Tower. What happens first?

Quentin's apprehension was apparent as she stepped through the grand doors and into the entrance of the tower. Her shoulders were drawn up close to her ears and she wrapped her coat tightly around her. Stepping into the warm air from the cold outside, her nose and the tips of her felt almost like they were burning. She rubbed her nose with one hand as she stood in the middle of the entrance, wondering what to do now. Did she need to talk to someone? Would they be expecting her?

The Main Hall was rather empty save two older men in long robes of gray and blue, who were perhaps teachers of some sort. They conversed in one corner quietly. A younger boy was seated on a bench, reading some old, worn book. There was also a guard in the Main Hall. The Tower guard was the first to approach her: a tall, young man with dark hair and cold eyes, as cold as the weather outside. He gave her a slight bow, not too formal, for she wasn't exactly royalty or anything like that. "Greetings. I presume you are Miss Yuvaraj," he said.

Quentin turned to face the guard when he spoke to her. She returned the bow he gave her, just enough to be polite. "Yes, I'm Quentin Yuvaraj," she said in response to his question. "And you are?" she asked. She decided she might as well know his name, unless he didn't want to tell her for some reason. Maybe he was just a guard and she'd never need to talk to him again, or maybe he'd turn out to be someone important.

The guard seemed a little surprised that she was bothering to learn his name of all things. He was just a guard after all. What did he matter to anyone really except to be called on when trouble arose. Then again, some people just had to know things. "Graystar," he said lowly. "Kain Graystar."

"Kain Greystar," Quentin repeated, and then nodded once to herself. "You are the guard here," she stated. It was pretty clear he was, so she didn't phrase it as a question. "Do I need to, um, talk to someone? Do I need to check in?" She abhorred not knowing what to do. She had to depend on someone else to tell her what she needed to know, and she probably looked like a fool.

"I can take you to the Headmaster," he said, just as the sound of an explosion echoed through the tower from somewhere above them. He glanced up only briefly, as if it was no big deal. A cloud of purple smoke oozed its way down the stairs. "I'm okay!" came a young voice. But no one downstairs even bothered to really blink. This was apparently a norm. "If you can make it without running into... any more explosions," he finished. "That won't happen since you're around," a new voice came up, a darker, velvety voice. Someone came up behind Quentin from the shadows. Kain frowned at the new person who appeared.

Quentin looked upward quickly when the sound of the explosion came echoing down, but Kain didn't seem to be worried about it, so she relaxed as well. She nodded and began to say, "Not running into anymore explosions might-" but was interrupted by the voice from behind her. She hadn't noticed anyone there before and turned to see who it was. "That won't happen?" she repeated.
