It's a typical, dark day, and all seems normal at base. Until...

Southern Eltreus was always cold this time of year. More than usual, seeing as the sun was never shining anymore. But this generation of humans at least had never seen the sun, so it was not as if they knew better of it. In this particular area of the world, known as Ground Zero for its proximity to the site where the shaman supposedly blotted out the sky, there was a small fort built. Fort 0-G. It was no ordinary fort. This was where the Hunters were stationed. Even though sounds of fighting could occasionally be heard if one was quiet enough at night, it was still rather safe and secluded from the armies of vampire and werewolf that stained the ground red in their attempts at dominating all life left behind. Sio was sitting in the watchtower, precariously perched on the half railing that wrapped about the platform. She was drawing a map of the camp, so she needed the best vantage point.

Jaspar has just woken up after his night watch shift. He always offered to take the late shifts. Being awake at night was better than being awake in the morning. He had thrown on a sweatshirt and gone in search of something to eat, ignoring his messy hair. He was headed towards the mess hall when he noticed Sio drawing at the top of the watch tower. He walked to the base of the tower and cupped his hands around his mouth. "HEY, DON'T FALL!" He yelled up at his friend.

Sio jolted upright on her perch, somehow managing to keep her balance. She looked down at her friend and glared, black hair falling around her shoulders,,,,, creating darker shadows around her face to add to the menacing look she was doing well at exhibiting. She raised her sketchbook over her head and chucked it at his head as hard as she could with the deadliest of aims. She wasn't considered a sharpshooter for nothing. Throwing knives, bows and arrows, you name it. "Try keeping that characteristically girly shriek down to non-glass-shattering frequencies, how about," she replied. Putting the pencil in her mouth and her hands on either side of her, she pushed herself off and dropped to the ground, landing in a catlike crouch. She straightened up and tossed her hair back over her shoulders. Pulling her pencil out of her mouth, she gave him a condescending look. "What makes you so chipper at two pm? Slept in again?"

Jaspar was chortling, at least until Sio threw her book at him. He ducked his head under his arms. The book bounced off and he caught it before it hit the ground. Sio should br glad he didn't let it drop into the dirt. He knew how much time she took to make sure her sketches were perfectly accurate to the last detail. "My glass shattering shriek is my greatest weapon." He grinned cheerily at her last question. "Of course I did. 2 pm is early morning to me. I was just going to breakfast. Want to come?"

Sio huffed, folding her arms across her chest. "You should re-examine your sleep schedule," she said with a sigh. At the mention of breakfast, she raised one eyebrow. If she was going to say something about how it was most definitely not breakfast time, she never let the thought come to light. "Very well. I will join you," she said, then held out a hand. "Sketchbook please."

Jaspar put the sketchbook on his head and balanced it there. He slapped Sio's outstretched hand with his own. "I'll give it to you in a minute. You can show me your drawings as I eat." He turned delicately and started walking away in the direction of the mess hall, stepping lightly to make sure the sketchbook didn't fall off. "The only thing wrong with my sleep schedule is that they never have breakfast food at breakfast time," he mused. "I want pancakes, but they always have pancakes at sleeping time."

Seeing her sketchbook out of reach as it balanced on her much taller companion's head, Sio merely pressed her lips into a firm line, then crossed her arms. "Well, maybe if you were not such a jerk, someone would consider making pancakes for you special," she muttered dismally. She headed off for the dining hall, keeping just behind Jaspar, if begrudgingly. Still, it was not as if she had expected otherwise from him, taking her book like that.

Jaspar snatched the sketchbook off his head and held it to his chest, his expression dramatically shocked, his mouth formed into a little 'o'. "Really, do you mean that? Don't toy with my heart like this, Sio. If you're lying, you gotta let me know now before I get too invested. I don't think I can handle any more rejection." He used one hand to clutch the book over his heart. The other, he put dramatically to his forehead.

She bit back a laugh, determined to seem as disinterested in his crisis as she could. She even turned up her nose slightly. "Well, we won't know till we try will we," she said bluntly, continuing her walk to the dining hall. "And just maybe, they'll make you some orange juice too."

Jasper darted around Sio to stand right in front of her in the path. He bowed his head and extended the sketchbook with both hands towards his friend. "Sio, I extend this gracious offering as a token of goodwill. I beg you will take it."

The corners of her mouth twitched, and she finally laughed, a very good natured laugh at that. "Well, well, aren't you willing and able all of a sudden?" She gladly took her sketchbook back and stuffed it into her messenger bag, something she only carried around the post. "Let's get you some pancakes then." She gave him a wink, then grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him off to the dining hall.

Jasper grinned unappologetically."I like pancakes, okay? I've seriously not had pancakes in so long." He had to bend down as Sio pulled him along because of how much shorter she was then him, which made his stumble a few times in the gravel path, but he was grinning. "No one ever takes into account those who don't eat breakfast before noon."

"Usually because there are other things to take into account," she replied half-heartedly. She pushed open the double doors of the hall. Releasing her hold on Jasper, she went up to the kitchen serving counter and grabbed a plate wrapped in tinfoil. She walked back to Jasper with purposeful strides and held out the crinkling dish. "Here. Open it. I had it saved just for you, and it's still very warm."

Jaspar took the plate and promptly snatched the foil off. He wrickled it up into a little ball and tossed it into the trash and then grabbed one of the pancakes and stuffed it into his mouth whole. "Thith ith good paaak," he said with his mouth full. He swallowed and grinnes. "Sio, don't ever let anyone tell you that you aren't the best, okay? Wanna pancake?"
