Disturbance! A Totally Manly Man Approaches His Waifu!

Aeorlas moved to pull Kain away at the sight of her aura glowing blue in that cramped stairwell. None of them could survive an explosion in such cramped, close quarters. But Ferris noticed the change, and stopped Aeorlas with his hand on the other boy's shoulder. They stared in awe as her aura flowed all around them, and Kain instantly began to look, dare they say, better. Aeorlas looked up at her now, still with a shocked expression in his usually stoic eyes. "Well, that's a new one, Miss Bell," he said lowly. He pulled Kain further up to lean on him. "Let's get him to the potions room. When he wakes up, we can find out what happened."
Ferris went on Kain's other side and pulled Kain's arm over his shoulder and wrapped an arm around the young soldier's waist. The two of them had a much easier time getting Kain up the stairs than Aeorlas did alone.

Aeorlas and Ferris got Kain into the potions room after roughly kicking the door open. Aeorlas took Kain's whole weight and set him carefully on the makeshift cot in the corner. He knelt beside Kain and started removing his armor.
"Looks like he's been healed already," Ferris said, looking back at Celine as he spoke despite addressing Aeorlas.
Aeorlas did not look up as he unbuckled Kain's breastplate. "Even so, I'd like to see what made him that way," he said softly.

Aeorlas finished taking all the armor off. Kain looked far less resolute and imposing without his heavy metal plate covering his body. Now in just a plain shirt that was once white and a pair of loose fitting pants, he looked like a peasant. Aeorlas held his hand over Kain's forehead. "Indago origo," he murmured quietly. A black, snakelike aura writhed from his palm and into Kain's forehead. The strange darkness seemed to creep under Kain's skin, writhing down his face and neck, then disappearing under his shirt collar. Aeorlas lifted up Kain's shirt, and there the darkness had gathered, swirling just under Kain's skin over his sternum. Aeorlas frowned and held his hand over the darkness. "Ostendo." The darkness flowed back up into Aeorlas' hand. His eye glowed brightly for a moment, then faded. "Hmm, well, it was dark magic alright," he said quietly.
"What sort?" Ferris asked, though he already expected the answer before Aeorlas said it: "I don't know." Aeorlas turned to Celine. "But you cured him. Whatever you did, it saved his life."

Aeorlas pulled a rather crummy blanket from the side of the cot and pulled it over Kain. "Once things calm down, he should be moved to the infirmary. The healers can do a better job at this than I." He pushed himself up off the floor and brushed off his hands. Slowly, he turned back to face Celine, a look of something like approval on his face. "Well, you sure are full of surprises, Miss Bell." Then looking at Ferris, he said, "I can see why you hang around her so much."

Aeorlas nodded. "Mm, stay here with Kain," he told her. "Ferris, I need your help."
"What?" he asked, one eyebrow going up.
Aeorlas ignored his confused look and brushed past him for the door. "Help me find a healer."
"Oh, um, okay," Ferris said, watching him go for a moment. He looked back at Celine with a concerned look. "You'll be okay here by yourself?" he asked.

Ferris nodded to her. "Alright, we'll try and be back soon," he said. He smiled at her briefly, then hurried after Aeorlas, the door closing loudly behind him. Now there was nothing in the room really save the torches and candles blazing away and the sound of the two occupants' breathing.

Kain was sleeping quietly for the most part, and even as several minutes passed, there was no sign of Ferris and Aeorlas, with or without the healer they were seeking. After a little while though, Kain began to stir. He groaned softly and blinked open his eyes, eyes dull with confusion. He probably had no idea where he was.
